SIMON VERHOEVEN
Simon Verhoeven was born in Munich in the 70s or 80s. He doesn’t remember. After finishing school, he attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York. He then graduated with a degree in screenwriting and directing from Tisch School of the Arts in New York. Since then, he has written and directed numerous successful feature films.
Simon’s Alter weißer Mann, starring Jan Josef Liefers, was released in late 2024. The comedy quickly topped the German film charts and went on to become one of the year’s most successful films. His biographical film about the notorious music duo Milli Vanilli Girl You Know it’s True starring Matthias Schweighöfer hit the cinemas in December 2023. It won Best Film at the Bavarian Film Awards.
His feature, Nightlife was released in 2020 and not only became the year’s most successful film, it was also awarded the „Ernst Lubitsch Prize“ for best comedy and the Lola at the German Film Awards. Simon’s feature, Willkommen bei den Hartmanns was likewise a box office sensation. After exceeding the 4 million viewers mark it became the most successful German feature film of 2016 and won multiple prestigious awards, including the German Film Award and the BAMBI Award for Best German movie. His earlier films Männerherzen and Männerherzen 2 also won numerous awards.
In 2021 Simon developed and co-directed the Amazon Prime documentary series “FC Bayern – Behind The Legend”.
In addition to feature films and series, Simon is a successful commercial director. He has directed films for clients such as Beats, TELEKOM, Lufthansa, Apple, Warsteiner and Sky to name a few.
